Rescue Balm replaces our Bite Relief Oil
Rescue balm is a relatively new product developed by Natural Wonders. The balm contains a strong blend of essential oils and base oils which help to soothe itching and irritated skin caused by insect bites and rashes, as well as assist with the healing of cuts and scratches. You can think of it as a little first-aid kit in a tube.
Rescue Balm was developed as a more convenient and effective product which replaces our now discontinued Bite Relief Oil as a treatment for itch relief.
The blend of essential oils used in our Rescue Balm includes Lavender, Rosemary, Peppermint, Tea tree, Clove and Helichrysum (also known as Everlasting) essential oils.
Lavender essential oil is an extremely versatile oil and is popular in many cosmetic uses. We added it to our blend for its pain relieving, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It also smells great, helping to soften the scent of other, stronger oils in the formulation.
Rosemary essential oil is used for its pain relieving properties making it ideal for application on bites, cuts and scratches.
Peppermint oil is added for both its pain relieving and antiseptic properties to ease itchiness and pain and prevent infections.
Tea tree oil is recognised universally for its antibacterial properties which help to prevent infection, but also for its anti-fungal properties. This means that when Rescue Balm is applied to rashes of a fungal origin, it may help to alleviate symptoms.
Clove oil is popular as a pain reliever for toothache due to its numbing effect. In the Rescue Balm, a small amount of clove oil is added to create a very mild numbing effect in the area. It, like tea tree oil, has both antibacterial and anti-fungal properties.
Helichrysum oil has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties like many of the oils added to the Rescue Balm, in addition to this, it also has anti-allergenic properties. Its primary purpose in the Rescue Balm, however, is to speed up healing.
The base of the Rescue Balm is made up of beeswax and cocoa butter to keep it in a convenient solid form while the Jojoba oil keeps the balm soft enough for it to be applied easily. Castor oil is added for its anti-inflammatory properties while Tamanu oil is added for its ability to help speed up healing. These natural plant oils are rich in Vitamin E, which helps to speed the healing process and reduce scarring. They are also high in essential fatty acids, which naturally reduce inflammation.
To use the Rescue Balm, simply apply it to the affected area and gently rub in. On new bites, itching should subside within a minute, older bites may require repeated application. To assist with itch relief and healing of minor cuts and scratches, gently apply to the area as required.
